Sustainability at Pine Grove Elementary

Pine Grove Elementary is proud to announce an array of sustainable practices:

  • Red Barn Recycling ‐ so far our community has donated over 2,000 pounds of clothes/shoes! The items are sent to areas in need in South America, Africa and Mexico. We receive 10 cents per pound that goes towards our sustainability budget, plus an additional amount if we win quarterly contests with other schools in the area. Thank you, keep it coming!
  • Recycling your alkaline batteries is now available at the school! At the main entrance there is a box for Terracycling. Simply put your old batteries in the box and when it is full we will ship it to Terracyclling. We pre-pay for the box and shipping using sustainability funds.
  • Recycling garbage at lunch ‐ everyone is encouraged to participate in recycling and separating. Blue garbage containers in the lunchroom plus new signs to show what goes in the container are now up. Let's get together to do our part to help the planet and reduce greenhouse gases
  • Garden expansion now includes composting.
  • Recycling your snack wrappers at lunch is now available at the school. There is a box for Terracycling in the lunch room. They will take our trash and turn it into cool things like purses and wallets. We pre-pay for the box and shipping using sustainability funds.

Many thanks to our fabulous Art teacher, Ms. Burns, and parent volunteer, Kyra Storojev, for your passion and effort with bringing more sustainability practices to PGE and educating our next generation to take care of our Earth !
